Crew

Captain: Lukata Samuel

Nationality: US

Capt. Lukata Samuel
Lukata Samuel is a 100 ton Master Captain born and raised in the beautiful Virgin Islands with endless knowledge of the Virgin Island and surrounding islands. He began sailing at 8 years old at the St.Thomas Yacht Club where he found a love for sailing and continued learning and teaching . With his mind set, Lukata traveled to St. Vincent and Grenadines to teach sailing to the local youth. After this, he then began working on day charters in the Virgin Islands as well as in Puerto Rico.

Aside from sailing, Lukata is a locally known runner and triathlete and has competed in multiple triathlon events in the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. In their down time Lukata and Benita can be found competing in sailing races, volunteering in the local community as well as basking in the sun at some of their favorite hidden beaches. You can also catch them at the sailing and wellness program where they provide the fundamentals of sailing as well as the building blocks to a healthy lifestyle to the youth of St. Thomas.

Lukata has a passion for sharing the beautiful island experience with his guest while they indulge in the Caribbean lifestyle. He is determined to push the bounds of the ocean and create a tropical oasis experience for the guests. Lukata brings a diverse package to every charter. He provides farm fresh provisions, special Island tours, local eateries, local artists and much more to bring you deep into the islands food, fun, and culture . He loves it when his guest have a dream like island experience as this has been his pleasure and pride of his . “The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for a newer and richer experience” a quote that he strongly leads his life by. Come be Irie and catch the wind of wonders on Boketto as Captain Lukata sets sail on a lifetime experience in the Virgin Islands.

Chef Benita Marshall
Captain & Chef Benita Marshall is a flare of bright energy and a lover of sunset swimming & fresh pesto. With 2+ years of experience and upwards of 1000 nautical miles on near coastal waters as well as carrying her USCG Master 100 ton, Benita truly feels one with the ocean and is has surrendered to wherever the waves take her. Hailing from all over the Caribbean with family roots in several islands from Cuba to Trinidad, Benita considers herself “your local island explorer” of food, fun, culture and of course waves.

Benita comes alive in the kitchen and has the best time making art in the galley. With over 5 years in the culinary and restaurant industry, Benita is well versed in various diets and allergies, and believes that whatever you put into your body, should always make you feel better. “Making sure the guests dance when they eat” has always been her thrill and something she looks forward to when preparing delicious food. Benita and Lukata also help operate their local family farms of Meder Mogzit and Greenridge Guavaberry and provide a “farm to table” approach to dining so the freshness and love will always be tasted.

Rising to the motion of the ocean and the light of the sun is always something Benita wants to do for the rest of her life. Benita is a certified yoga and pilates instructor and believes that health is truly wealth, so mindful movement, meditation and breathing are some the things she loves to connect with her guests on. Benita is passionate about feeding the spirit within as well as having fun almost every second of her life, so you probably find her in prayer and meditation at 6am to doing flips off the boat 3 hours later.

Benita and Lukata offer a wide range of activities from farm tours, historic hikes to meeting with local musicians and artists as well as memorable experiences off land for all their guests to take as intangible souvenirs. With their Caribbean essence, Lukata and Benita indulge their guests in a behind the scene experience of culture, food, fun and the true “island life”.

Our fav memory or recommended activity snorkeling, watching the sunsets, listening to the sounds of the water in the moonlight, jumping off the top deck riding in the dinghy and sailing from one cove to another and of course meeting by Brianna - the best! Our goal for our annual family trip is to create memories to last a lifetime and this trip most certainly accomplished just that! Life at sea is pure magic and Derek and Brianna were the best crew we could have hoped for!

This was an unforgettable vacation for all of us and we are so grateful for Chef and Captain Derek's hospitality. All of their accommodations were on point. If only we had listened to Captain Derek about going to the Baths before 7 am before the tourist shuttle boats came in. I think my favorite meal was the snapper which was out of sight! I know a few of us disagree on what our favorite meal was, which only means that every meal was fantastic. We appreciate all the luxurious touches - the great quality, reef friendly shampoos and soaps. Having our towels our to dry and finding them all folded up, organized by person in the morning. This team went above and beyond to make us feel at home, safe and entertained the whole week. Please give our best to starfish alley and turtle town. Forever grateful

We had a wonderful time! I was very nervous about being on a boat for a week. I hadn't been sailing for years and I have been dealing with health issues recently. There was nothing to worry about! D & H were so considerate and responsive that the week was a relaxing adventure the entire time. Snorkeling was a big hit with us and I knew of the best spots and the best things to look for. I learned some great turtle spotting techniques and snorkeling tips. The food was excellent and it had such interesting things to say about the dished and the broad focus of knowledge and inspiration. The jerk chicken and lamb chops were probably our favorites. They were both such great company – friendly and attentive. We owe them so much for our very special time. P.S. I forgot to mention the Painkillers!

We had an amazing time celebrating my friends 60th birthday! We have been to the Virgin Islands many times and it has easily become one of our favorite destinations. Living on the water was a very different and fabulous perspective. Trip of a lifetime! The yacht was a perfect vessel for us, and our crew - Captain Derek and his first mate were so much fun, knowledgeable and skilled both on and off the boat. Thank you for a memorable 7 days, and for taking such good care of us!

The trip was absolutely fantastic! From start to finish, Derek and chef took care of our every need. The food was amazing – chef fusion of southern soul and Caribbean was to die for. She was very flexible to satisfy our palettes. She is also an extremely friendly, outgoing and generous...we loved hearing her stories. Derek, was an amazing captain. He 100% met our desires to be in less than populated areas, hike to get experience and he was phenomenal tour guide on snorkeling expeditions! We saw so much memorable life in general but he was able to point out things we never would have noted on our own. His great guide on land as well.

This was our second time on charter, the first was in the BVI. What a great trip! Captain Derek and Chef were excellent hosts. And for the record, that is the correct spelling of her name. St. John was much more peaceful than I expected. The National Park has done a great job of preserving the area. We hike to snorkel and Derek showed us some great spots. Far and away the best snorkeling we have done. His knowledge of the reef and sea life, and hiking made the week educational. Chef knows how to cook! You will not be disappointed. I honestly cant pick a favorite meal, it was all very good. Derek and Chef made a good time. We can't wait to come back again but for now its back to New England. Thanks again. Craig, Nicole, Chatham, Benjamin, Cooper and Foster
